On the ferry to Trogir
Today's plan was a boat trip to Trogir, so after breakfast we walked down to the Riva and out to mooring 5 on the stone jetty, where we met up with the others from our group. We had to wait a little while for the boat but when it came were first up the stairs to secure seats on the open-air upper deck!

Arriving in Slatine
The ride took about an hour, calling at Slatine on the way. When we docked in Trogir we had to cross a short bridge to reach the island where the old part of the town is situated.
Arrival in Trogir
We then made our way immediately to the main square where we had coffee together before breaking into smaller groups to explore. On one side of the square is the Chapel of San Sebastian and opposite it the cathedral dedicated to San Lorenzo. We didn’t go in either. I was quite keen to, but we were limited for time here and my friends were more interested in exploring our of doors on this lovely day – and they had a point! However I did enjoy photographing some details and the worn statue of Christ outside the latter.

With my friends I spent a pleasant hour or so wandering the little lanes, popping into a couple of shops (I bought a pretty bracelet) and taking plenty of photos.

When we emerged again by the water we saw the fortress, Kamerlengo Castle, and another church, that of San Dominic.

We then followed a different route through to the other side of the island on which Trogir's old town sits. We crossed the bridge to the mainland, where we visited the produce market and sampled delicious cherries.

We gathered with the others at the bus station and bought tickets for the ride to Kastel Kambelovac where we were to have lunch, and onward to Split. Our friend Marit had reserved a table at the Baleta Skola restaurant right by the water. We were outside but under cover - just as well, as during our meal there was a spell of heavy rain.
Luckily that had cleared by the time we came to leave so we took some photos by the water's edge.

We then walked back to the bus stop to catch the bus back to Split. It was very full and we had to stand part of the way, so we were all quite tired by the time we got back to the hotel.
After a rest we went out to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine and seeing a bit more of Split, as this was our last day here. We walked into the old town via a different road so we could see the 4th century AD Porta Aurea or Golden Gate. Near it stands the Monument to Gregory of Nin. Legend says that rubbing his toe will bring good luck so we had to have a go. You can see how shiny it has become from so much rubbing over the years - clearly everyone is looking for a bit of good luck!

We then followed what was once one of the two main Roman roads through the city, Dioklecijanova, down to the Riva. As on the previous evening we didn’t feel that we wanted any dinner, but it was our last chance to enjoy ice creams from the great place we’d found there and we weren’t going to miss out on those! So we started our evening there, enjoying our ices in the still warm sunshine.
On the Riva
We had a last stroll around the town, in some streets that most of us hadn’t previously visited.
The Sulphur Baths building
Then we tried to return to last night’s lovely bar for drinks, but it was quite busy and they said we could only have a table for our group of seven if we were eating too. So we looked elsewhere and found a place in Voćni trg (Fruit Square, also known as Radić Brothers Square) nearer the waterfront. There I had a good Aperol Spritz while we chatted and watched the activity around us as darkness descended. A great spot in which to end our too-short stay in Split.
