On the Rue Monge

Time again for our now annual trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary in Paris. We travelled by Eurostar as usual, a journey that went well after a short delay in departure owing to some sort of technical issue. We were travelling in the Standard Premier section, our usual small treat to ourselves, where a light meal is offered. I smiled to see the Olympic logo on my delicious lemon tart.

After arriving at the Gare du Nord we were soon on the Metro, as we had left some journeys on our Navigo passes after our last visit. We were renting an apartment on the Rue Monge near Maubert-Mutualité, as a change from our recent stays near Saint Germain des Pres. The front door was the one on the right of my photo at the top of the page – so Parisian! We let ourselves in with the key codes we'd been sent and made our way to the first floor where we found a small but bright apartment, full of welcoming touches – even a Teddy bear!

We unpacked and settled in, and after a short break had a walk down to the river where I took a photo of Notre Dame, still under reconstruction of course. I was very happy to see the spire back in place, real progress since our visit last year.

We enjoyed our ‘welcome back to Paris’ aperitifs on the terrace of a bar in a quiet square. For dinner we went to the Bistro Lagrange which gets good reviews on Google. I found the noodles accompanying my salmon over-cooked and under-seasoned, but apart from that the food was quite good and the service friendly.

We strolled back to the apartment where we refreshed our French watching TV before an early night.

Great that you took the Eurostar to Paris for your anniversary, and stayed on rue Monge.
This was my first login to Travellerspoint for many months (or years??). My impression is that it has become quite spammy, lots of pop-ups and such.

Thank you Don - we love travelling by Eurostar :) I don't visit TP nearly as much as I used to (and neglect friends' blogs here shamefully) as my main focus is on my WP blog these days. But I do find it useful for documenting our trips on a day by day basis, which I tend not to do systematically on that main blog (if at all). I haven't been aware of an increase in spam etc., but maybe I'm not here often enough?

Happy Anniversary! We try for every fifth anniversary in Paris. Just did our 60th this past May-June. It is lovely to see the spire back on Notre Dame, isn't it?

Re spam and pop-ups, if you are a TP member, that doesn't happen. You are spared all ads of any sort. For the tiny amount it costs, it is more than worth it to me. Certainly less than the cost of a meal in Paris . . .

Thank you Sally :) I am a member (I've kept it up despite using the site less often) so that's probably why I'm not getting any more spam. I knew I wouldn't see any ads for that reason, but I do still get some spam messages, I don't think there's a way to avoid that?
