Flying to El Nido

Our last morning at the Bohol Beach Club and we had another walk along the beach after breakfast, although the sight of what might have been small jellyfish at the edge of the sea deterred me from paddling.

After cooling off in the room and finishing packing, we went to the café by the pool for a refreshing mango juice. We checked out at midday and took the hotel shuttle to the airport. We were too early for the bag drop to be open and once it did the queue moved rather slowly as a couple in front of us had some sort of issue. But once we'd dropped the bags security was very quick. Once in the departure area we got coffees and apple muffins in lieu of lunch (both good, especially the muffins). Our flight was delayed by about 30 minutes as the incoming one was late, but it was a small prop plane, so boarding was quick.

The flight took about an hour and a half, with some good views of the sea and various islands below.

From the flight to El Nido

The airport in El Nido was small and baggage was simply passed over to us in the arrivals hall. We were met by a driver who took us to our hotel for the night, The Funny Lion. This is in a modern almost brutalist block but rather stylish. The reception staff were very friendly, and we were given a lovely calamansi lime and ginger welcome drink before being shown to our room. That too was stylish but with quite limited space and storage – not really a problem however as we were only staying the one night.

We went out for a short walk around the town, to get our bearings, and took some photo of the pretty setting by the bay.

Later we went back to the area called Town Square and had dinner in a bar right by the water, AP Kala. The menu was limited but we both really enjoyed the turkey sandwich and some mashed potato, washed down with San Miguel Pale Pilsens. Chris had a second beer while I ate a mango ice cream dessert, then a third while I had a mojito! The air was cooler up on their terrace, and there were lovely views of the bay as well as a colourfully illuminated tree and, bizarrely, a sort of Mr Universe contest in the next-door bar!
