Another anniversary in Paris

Near Sèvres-Babylone

We woke fairly late, presumably because of the one hour time difference, and went for a leisurely breakfast at the nearby Cafe Le Saint Victor. We then took the Metro to Sèvres-Babylone.

We walked along the lovely rue du Bac to the Musée Maillol to visit the then-current Robert Doisneau exhibition which was excellent. I liked best his photos of children and of ordinary people in the Paris suburbs.

And the building itself was lovely, as was some of the sculpture on display in its other rooms.

We had a light lunch on the terrace of a nearby restaurant, along with some people watching of course.

We then followed the rue de Bac right down to the Seine and over the Pont Royal to the Jardin des Tuileries.

The Olympic flame was back in Paris to mark a year since the games, and we were able to get much closer than we could last year.

We had a short wander around this part of the gardens and a rest on some shady seats (the sun was quite hot by now). We then walked through the Arc du Triomphe du Carrousel and around the corner of the Louvre to follow the Quai François Mitterand for a while.

We crossed the Pont Neuf on to the Ile de la Cite and into the Place Dauphine where we had stayed when on honeymoon here. Past the Palais de Justice we crossed the Pont Saint Michel to the Left Bank and wandered through some back streets in search of ice cream.

We found some at the Glacier de Notre Dame de Paris, where they make their own in house and serve it (very slowly!) in carefully filled cups. The chocolate was particularly good!

We then made our way back to the apartment to relax for a bit. In the evening we celebrated our anniversary at Comme Chai Toi, as we had enjoyed it there so much last year. It was just as good this time around, with a starter of tuna carpaccio served with a little potato cake and pickled vegetables (Chris had an excellent cucumber gazpacho), a main course of stuffed pork wrapped in bacon and a dessert of cherry cheesecake.
