We had a much more relaxed start to the day than yesterday, enjoying breakfast on the terrace of the Atlas restaurant in the company of the resident peacock family and other birds, some of whom were boldly raiding the tables for scraps.

Today was our end of trip chill day. We spent some time in the morning in and around the beautiful Moon Pool, one of the nicest hotel pools we've had anywhere on our travels. We had a light lunch in the Cove Bar, sharing some guacamole and chips.

In the afternoon we had a stroll around the grounds, checking out the several lookout seating areas on the cliffs, but the seating there wasn't in shade so after a few photos of the views we returned to our villa and spent much of the afternoon on our terrace.

When we left to go for pre-dinner drinks it was thankfully still dry, unlike the previous evenings, but we wisely took umbrellas nevertheless. We were able to enjoy our drinks with a view of the bay, accompanied by flashes of lightening but no thunder. In the restaurant we were offered a seat on the terrace and chose one under the overhanging roof – again wisely. When the rain eventually came, we were well sheltered and able to finish our meal without changing tables as some people had to do.

And of course we were able to take umbrellas from the communal collection at the door when we left, and had a pleasant walk back to our villa.

We'd had a note telling us about the blooming of the Kadupal flower, also known as the Queen of the Night, which was to be seen in the area known as the Forest School (mainly devoted to kids' activities) that evening. It was only raining very lightly so at 10.00 PM I went across with my camera and the staff member there helped me get some photos by the light of his torch. He told me the flowers would start to fade after midnight as they only bloomed briefly. It was an interesting almost-end to our time at Weligama.
